Exhaust question

Recommended Posts

I really hate the look of rusty and/or dirty header pipes. Call it a fetish. Not going for ultimate horsepower here. I see ads for stainless header pipes, and they say "won't work with stock muffler". But, like FMF, they say their slip on muffler will work with the stock pipes. So why wouldn't the stainless pipes work with the stock muffler - on which I may slightly modify the restrictor/spark arrestor portion. Am I missing something, or are they just looking to sell more stuff?

You can make most anything mate up with spacers or washers or clamps.

The XR's Only headers are bigger diameter than stock, so you'd have to fill the gap with some kind of gasket type seal.

Worse case is you take both pieces to a muffler shop and they'll mate the ends up for $10 or so. :smashpc:

The FMF will work with the stock muffler - same O.D. as the stock head pipe. Some others have larger diameters requiring the use of a larger dia. muffler pipe.
