250 or 400 ???

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I just blown off my xr250 engine and I'm thinking to put an xr400 engine that I bought it from junk yard and it need's a lot of parts .

The xr250 engine needs : piston - 4 valves - cylinder head - kickstart gears.

The xr400 engine needs a total top end : cylinder - cylinder head - piston - bolts ,, and every thing on the top end . And I found some of the xr 4 parts a cylinder head with the valves, cylinder, valves cover and its for a good prize .

So what engine should I repair and put it ??

How did you blow the 250 up? IF it was from working it too hard, then you definitely want the 400.

If you can get the 400 parts for a good price it's a no brainer to do the 400.

googling them shows mixed reviews.

Overall enough problems that I wouldn't be comfortable.

IF there are other choices available and if you can afford them, I'd go that way.

namura is a cheap piston, I've always been scared of them but they are what alot (all?) of KTM's have from the factory.

Go with the 400, It's a tractor in the woods:worthy:
