WR250X won't start

Recommended Posts

2008 WR250X, 16240 mi, won't start after a plug change

I rode it in the rain, then washed it, so it got plenty wet. I started it and idled it after washing it. Then I replaced the plug with a CR9E (non-spec). I started it and let it idle for only a few seconds. ~32 hours later it would crank but not start.

I got the spec plug (CR9EK), installed it, and checked for spark by holding the CR9E in coil pack against the frame. No spark. Checked connections, everything is good.

The bike is 3.5 years old. Is it possible the battery just doesn't have juice to produce a spark even though it turns the starter? I've heard that's possible on these new coil pack/EFI dealios.

The most obvious thing to check is the plug wire. They don't last forever. Check to make sure it is plugged in properly .... at both ends.

could be a bad coil. the yamaha sleds that have them have had ones that crack and arc out in the head rather than fireing the plug. sry i do not know the specs to test it either but they should be posted online somewhere.
