are the front fairings necessary?

Recommended Posts

or whatever they're called, the side panels in front of the tank on either side. presumably they're designed to funnel air into the radiators but under non-severe use (ie, basic street riding) are they really necessary? would anything bad happen if i ran without them, particularly when temps are only in the 70s? i hate not knowing engine vitals, maybe that'll be my next project - adding tachometer and oil pressure/water temp gauges, along with a manual fan switch.

When i trimmed a pair of shrouds there was a noticeable ~10 degree increase in the temps read off of a Trailtech Vapor. Since it was winter I didnt care, dont run em anymore though.

Prob a good idea to add a water temp gauge (perhaps via a Vapor) before reducing your rad air flow ......though if its got a factory rad fan it shouldn't be an issue..
