TTR125 Not shifting properly

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 2003 TTR125. It recently developed problems shifting. When you first start the bike you can only get in to 1st and 2nd gear. Once you get the bike hot it shifts normally. I am not sure if I have a problem with the clutch or something else.

Has anyone dealt with this problem?

I'd start by changing the oil...when's the last time that was done?

Next, I'd take a look at the shifter linkage. You'll see that the shifter does not connect directly to the shift shaft, but uses to ball and socket linkages and a lever to accomplish this.

Which makes no sense, they just wear out, get sloppy, and make it feel like a mess.

IMS makes a folding tip replacement shifter that eliminates the linkage completely.

Oil was a mess, took care of that. I honestly never noticed that linkage, what a goofy design. It looks like I can adjust to some degree.

Those adjustment threads on the linkage is there to change the height of the shifter in relation to the peg.
