Help with CRF50 brake drum diameter

Recommended Posts

I bought a set of used CRF50 wheels that are 12" rims laced to CRF50 hubs, These are for my TTR50. The TTR50 brake hub is slightly different so I ordered CRF50 clone brake hubs off of Ebay and when they arrive I noticed that they are more then 1" bigger in diameter. Before I get into technical discussions with the seller I want to verify the diameter of the stock CRF50 brake hub. My TTR50 and 12" wheel set have roughly a 8 cm diameter while the hub I received are about 11 cm.

The TTR50 hub is on the right the clone is on the left.

This is a common problem with eBay sellers not clarifying their products. The hub on the left is one for a '69-'79 Z50, which uses a slightly larger brake panel. The '80 through '99 Z50R uses the same brake panel as the '00-'11 XR/CRF50, which is the smaller one. The problem lies within the fact that most of the eBay parts peddlers lump the Z50 in with the XR/CRF50, leading people to believe that all the parts are interchangable, when they are not.
