question on changing sprocket sizes

Recommended Posts

got a 2005 TTR90 for a kid 100lbs. The stock sprockets are 14 and 35. If I put on a 14 and 32(free from friend) or 13 32, what difference will I see..

Divide the number of teeth on the rear sprocket by the number at the front. When comparing different combo's.....the bigger the ratio = more acceleration but less top speed. A smaller number has the opposite effect.

On a 13/52 combo, this will give a ratio of 4:1.

On a 14/42 combo, this will give a ratio of 3:1.

In other words.....

If you want more accel, you can either drop a tooth in the front, or go bigger in the back. A lot of times dropping one in the front makes more sense, as going down one in the front is about the same as going up 3 in the back; and more times than not, the stock chain will still work.

For top end, go up in the front, or down in the back, same rule applies.
