Anybody know how to straighten a frame?

Recommended Posts

Ive had a some 80's Honda XRs go through my hands lately and noticed quite a few have wonked rear sub frames. Usually bent out an 3/4 to an inch from where it should be. My 87 Xl250R that I'm working on has the same thing. I'm plan on keeping this a while as a dual sport and want it to be right for higher speeds on the road. Is there any method to bring it back to shape without twisting some other part of the frame out of whack?

If they unbolt you could make brackets the same as if were bolted to the main frame and use the brackets to bolt it to the floor. Then use a com-a-long to pull in the direction needed.

If not removable, bolt the main frame to the ground and pull. Some people use long pipes or pry bars for leverage and just have at it.
