needle clip position question

Recommended Posts

2008 DRZsm

3X3 mod, and I think the previous owner did something to the stock muffler to make it sound louder. do the stock mufflers usually have a spark arrestor? mine doesnt.

anyways, heres the problem

very close to half throttle the bike will stumble. If i try to accelerate by using half throttle it wont really go, i have to give it a tad bit more than half throttle, and then it will really pick up. It feels like what happens when you are just starting to run out of gas, and it starts sputtering a bit. It runs very strong at any other throttle position, which makes me think it has something to do with my needle position.

Its jetting 25 pilot, 155 main. im at 1000ft. im not sure of the current needle position. Do you think i need to go richer or leaner on needle setting?

thanks for any advice. 👍

Yep, they have spark arrestors from the factory.

I'm in Missouri too, 1000ft. Here's what I'm running:

155 main jet

Blue needle

4th clip position

Factory pilot jet

2.75 turns out on the fuel screw

3x3, extended fuel screw, and factory exhaust. Settings are perfect for me.

155 main jet

Blue needle

A 155 main jet sounds a little lean for a JD blue needle.
