Clutch cable install - question

Recommended Posts

Replaced my clutch cable yesterday with a "Motion Pro" cable. Old cable frayed and ready to break. The problem (or not) is that with both adjusters (lever end and inline) are closed and there is very little free play. Not really enough for my taste.

Ive done a good share of maintance on bikes but never a clutch cable.

Is there something im missing??

or is this possibly "normal" as its a new cable??? stupid too think that it will strech out??

maybe this is an issue with Motion Pro cables on the DRZ??? Anyone installed one of them??

(fwiw - there are no kinks and the cable is routed correctly)

Thanks

I would expect to see a little bit of streching. You could always pull the clutch actuator arm off and adjust it maybe one or two splines.

Sounds like you got used to a stretched cable. Same feeling when I replaced my old cable. Your good. Just ride and get a feel for where you had it before and adjust when needed

What is the actual free play? If none, then move the lever on the spline 1 notch.

A new cable really should not stretch.

Did you compare the "stick out" of the old cable and the new cable? likely it is the Motion Pro cable.
