I'm pretty sure they are. I had an 87 back in 91 and needed a repair and I had to send it out to be done, no one locally would touch it. It was a long time ago so.... I hope someone who knows more than me will chime in though.

The stock cylinder, when new, had an Electrofusion coating. This is similar to plating and not an iron or steel sleeve.

If you are asking about one you might have, then who knows what someone did to it in the last 24 years. ?

Plated cylinders that are damaged can be replated. They can't be honed to "hone out" any damage.

Look for Langcourt or Millenium's website. They replate cylinders.

Kawasaki started using electrofusion in 1980. They are not meant to be honed.

I had Millenium replate my '92 KX cylinder and have had no problems.

even the 1979 KDX400 (MADE IN THE USA!!!) was plated
