YZ fork tool

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know ,the size of the hex at the end of the tool for holding the damper rod on 43mm yz forks ? Mine are from a 82 Yz 490. I can make a tool , but I can't measure the rod down in the fork .

Put the spring back in the fork and put the cap on. The hit the allen in the bottom with an impact wrench. After you get it apart you can take a large nut and grind it to fit in the damper rod, take a bolt, nut and 2 washers and clamp the large nut with them and you have a handy holding tool.

I have used a wooden shovel handle for a damping rod holding tool, worked OK. Use an impact gun to disassemble like the others said, just don't use it for assembly.

It should be 17 or 19mm. I used the impact on a YZ fork that wouldn't come apart. I had my son steady it while I compressed it upside down on a piece of 2 x 4. I just zap it so it hammers a little. It worked.
