oil levels?

Recommended Posts

ok so here is my question of the day. i understand that lowering your oil level will have a dramatic effect on the harshness of your forks. and in the showa forks the oil levels are right around 350 if i am not mistaken. but 350 what? mL? and also in my honda book it says that my forks take about 12 and a half oz of oil or something like that then it say the inner chamber takes 6 or so oz. does this sound right? and are the oils seperate i mean do you put 6 in the inner then 12 in the outer? i thought that all the fork oil worked together are they 2 completely seperate cartridges? what is the purpose of each if that be the case? i guess i just really need this explained to me. any one care to shed some knowledge and enlighten me? or any vids online i can check out?

Inner chamber is sealed and requires full disassembly of the fork leg in order to change the oil.

Outer chamber can be fine tuned with oil level by adding or removing oil. 350ml is the same as 350 cc.

Use a ratio rite to measure the amount of oil you put in and or take out.

This video will help in understanding how it all works:
