Cough, cough, splutter

Recommended Posts

Need some help guys, 95 TT600. Idles perfectly and accelerates hard but trying to ride slow at constant revs results in coughing and spluttering. Carbs stripped and cleaned and all looks good. Suspect main jet could be the problem, can these things wear out or something? Also would secondary coming in too soon cause this?

Your ideas please

You'll get more responses on the jetting forum.

Idle is controlled by the Pilot jet. No issues.

Accelerating is controlled by the accelerator pump (if your carb has one)

Wide open throttle is controlled by the Main jet.

At slow constant speeds, 1/8 to 3/4 throttle, the jetting is controlled by the Needle jet. Sputtering and stumbling is typical of being too rich. Power feels "flat" when lean, with occasional miss. You need to "drop" your needle by one or two positions to lean it out. This is done by raising the clip position.
