What on earth is this noise!!?

i just purchased a 2000 model ktm 520 exc, and everything is perfect except for a creaking noise from the rear, seems to be suspension, possibally. i have a video showing it.

it happens only when the rear end is moved/compressed and happens at various stages of the compression stroke of the rear suspension.

what could it be?

please help its annoying

sounds like a duck is stuck under there

if you cant find the duck .... grease the bearings , swingarm pivot bolt and any rollers you have .

you can also spray some WD 40 around the area in question

The heim joint on the top and bottom shock mounts are typically what wear out. Put the bike on a stand, remove the shock. Move the swingarm up and down. If the noise persists, it is in the swingarm pivot. If it has stopped, it will probably be the lower shock heim (bearing).

If it is the shock heim, it is probably stuck in there pretty good. Best to take it to someone with the correct tool to press it out.

YEp.. most likely heim joint. Motion Pro makes a great tool to knock those out. That one sounds really bad so it must be pretty old. Put some heat on that housing and it will come out. And do not grease the new one.

Yep.. I like my older eRider tool for knocking it out. It is heavier. But the motion pro nails it on the install. The motion pro is ok for knocking out the joint too but you need to put some heat on the housing first.

Sometimes the rear springs touches the exhaust and makes that kind of noise at the top pf the stroke but it's easy to spot and shouldn't happen with stock exhaust.
