Top End

Recommended Posts

I had the bike put on a leakdown and it is getting 50% leakage past the rings. Guess it's time for a top end. This will be my first time doing a top end and wanted to make sure I have all necessary parts ready as I tear it down.

I went ahead and got a Vertex wrist pin, circlip, rings, and piston. Still looking for a complete top end gasket kit - the tusk kit on RM makes is available for all bikes except mine :busted:

Bike has 40 hours on it since new. Should I get a wristpin or top end bearing as well? Timing chain? What gaskets/gasket kit? What about deglazing/honing the cylinder? All of this stuff is new to me but I'm slowly beginning to grasp everything. Any help would be appreciated.

I would order up some nice OEM gaskets and get myself a ballhone. You have to break the glaze on the cylinder. 240 grit is good
