Ignition on a DR 650

Recommended Posts

Do our ignition systems fire on the exhaust stroke?? Do they fire every time the piston is at TDC?

It would explain alot if it did fire every time the piston was at TDC.

I am trying to get everything clear in my head for my assembly of the 780 motor.

Yes, it is a wasted spark system, so fires every time the piston comes up to TDC.

Thank you fispost19. that helps alot. I am to install the cams with the motor at TDC on the compression stroke?? Who knows if it is the compression stroke or not?? Since the motor fires every time the piston is at TDC I can call it the compression stroke and install the cams.

+1 Wasted spark.... fires on both TDC's. There is no differentiating TDC without a cam being installed. Put the engine at TDC... once you set the cam up at the timing marks you are now at TDC on the compression stroke. :busted:
