Where to ride free...

Recommended Posts

Living in Encinitas Ca...just got back into ridding after 16 years off...I have been to Pala, Barona, the Ranch and Cahuilla...

Looking for some canyons like Palm Ave had before all the development....also was a place in Oceanside off ElCamino Real that had a small canyon w free ridding...

I know it's hard to find a place to ride free in Sandiego county...but there has to be something left...

Anyone?......

Daniel

Does it have to be SD county? There is a ton of riding North/Northwest of you. More of a drive but 90% of the desert riding is free, and a lot of it is pretty nice.

Ah, Palm Ave.... Rancho Penasquitos, Ramona, Miramar, Black Mountain...

Sadly, all the good SD places are now covered in urban sprawl.

Thanks to all who took the time to post. The web site is helpful thanks:) I used to be stationed I'm 29 palms...yucca valley had some really cool places...but I can't remember where they were now...it's been 20 years...damn...there was a track that was free and close to the original Hutchins motorsport...or was it Two Wheels?...anyway the track was free...I was told it was Danny Laport's practice track...but don't know for sure...it also had trails that left the track and went for miles....wish I could find it again....

Thanks to all...Daniel

I am in Vista, I ride almost every week.

I go mostly to Ocotillo Wells, and Coral Canyon, both free..

This weekend will be Havasu for me. :busted:

PM me if you want to head out to Coral Canyon for a day ride sometime..

Die trying...working on it...and would be nice to have company...if the cops show up...I will have someone to out run! Ha!....JK...I never parked off road for that reason in the 90's...cops occasionally would come out on their duel sports bikes and pull right up to everyone who was parked out there and start writing tickets...meanwhile I slipped out the back to my van on the street....my dad was a cop...so I know a few things.

Diesel...we should hook up...I'm retired Marine Corps...and I have more free time now...been looking for day rides in the canyons...if I can find one!

I would love to buddy, always looking to ride, i work for myself so I can get time off almost anytime, Semper Fi..:busted:

Lets do it! Pm me when your thinking about burning some gas..and I would love to join you, we can go ride Pine Valley during weekdays (its safer since it is single track with lots of blind corners, I can run point)

I stay at my house near the intersection of Jamaica and McCullogh, I am on the Arizona side, we have less rules than california, lol. Its more like the wild west out here, in California you cant fart in public without a ticket..if you feel like crossing the lake let me know would love to show you around! I am down to ride if I am out here.

I live in Vista, Ca so I am there most of the time, but I come out to Havasu at least once a month, and Ocotillo wells once or twice a month, so I am riding quite often, lemme know if you want to link up! (By PM)

Still looking for local places...I ended up going for a canyon walk last Wednesday with my bike and gear left in the van...it was a good nature walk...I saw a king snake and hawks hovered about...but I did not get to ride:(

I drove up to Pala on Thursday and rode the vet track...played around with the suspension settings on my new KTM 450...my 2nd ride on the big bore...it was fun...I took my Boston terrier "Morgan" with me for company...

The KTM 450 got it's first oil change afterward....needs a few more tanks ran through it before the suspension settles in and I get the sag set...while on the vet track "Christian Craig" blew right by me with another young Pro on a Yamaha...reminding me of how slow I really am...and old...thanks guys...ha!...actually it was cool...because they went by everyone so quickly that it didn't impede anyone's forward movement what so ever!

Still hoping I will find a local spot...close to home and free...Sunday I rode with my girlfriend at a friend's ranch track...GF got her first ride on her 125 quad and was stoked! I test rode my KX 250 since I had put a new pipe on it...Doug Dubach set up...works exceptionally well! It was a good day ridding w friends...but it was a long drive...but FREE!....the track was about two miles long and only 4 of us out...the rain poured on me a little but I hammered it best I could...because I won't be able to ride again till Wednesday the earliest...bills came in the mail today...and now I'm not sure when I will ride again...costs allot to travel every time I want to ride:(
