quick question about locking the steering

What is the process to be able to lock the steering when you park your bike?

Im trying to lock mine but it wont lock, my key is cracked and bent so im guessing this is why. Im gonna get mine copied so itll work correctly but is there any trick to locking this or something i could be missing?

Turn bike to left, put key in steering lock, press in and turn, leave turned and pull key out, steering is locked!

Turn your bars all the way to the left then bring them back to the right just a tad. Put your key in the lock and turn to the left. Push the tumbler inward and turn your key to the right then pull it out. Your steering will be locked at that point. I use mine every day and have found that there is a sweet spot to be able to turn the key to the right after pushing it in hence why you turn the bars slightly back from full left.

thats what i was doing, its definately my key then thats not letting me turn it completely to lock it and pull the key back out. I could try straightening the key but it has a crack in it also so i dont want to get it broken off in there while its locked. So once i get the key copied i should be good to go.

my advice is to use more than just the steering lock to secure your bike

On my SM there is a different key(not ignition) that operates the steering lock ...

and oddly with the "E",..The same key operates both ignition and S/Lock......

I had the key copied and this one thats straight and not cracked does the trick
