Shock rebuild ?

Recommended Posts

Yuck,ya picked a difficult one..

If i recall,,,(it's been a lot of years since iv'e done a 82 yz..)They have a smashed expanded body seal,it takes a special tool to compress it to get the 1st snap ring out the second one will be under the seal inside. The reservior is a piston type and most likley the piston\cylinder is shot and needs a bladder conversion.

I have done many many shock rebuilds\revalves..even I would send this one off to someone with all the tools and knowlege.

already made a "special tool" to press out seal head & tried it out on a 1978 white bros shock i had layin' around ...works good...lookin' at changin' the resivour out to a model that has the adjustment knob on it & just leave the one on the shock body wide open that way i wouldn't have to remove the gas tank to adjust dampening like you have to now...thanx for your input though...i will take it under advisement but $$$ is a little tight right now that's why i'm lookin' at doin' it myself besides the fact i like workin' on my 2 old beater yamahammers 82yz490 & 1978 yz 400 frame with 1975 dt250 motor /1979 yz 250 forks & rear shock(playbike)
