Primal/Paleo Diet

Recommended Posts

Do you have any tips and suggestions on getting started?

I would start here and read everything you can:

I just dove head first and cut carbs and all "bad" food completely out of my diet. It was pretty hard the first week but after that it was just awesome the energy I had. Really incredible stuff. Any other questions just ask! Or PM me.

Don't think of paleo as a diet to lose weight. It will help you do that, but you are going to miss the point of the paleo lifestyle if thats all you get out of it. Paleo will make you HEALTHY. This is something that most Americans are not. Before Paleo, I used to get sick several times a year. Be it, the flu or nasty cough for weeks at a time or even strep throat. After ~1 year on Paleo, I have not gotten sick once.

Tips for getting started? Yea I have a few that really helped me. You must know this is going to hurt for a few weeks. Your body will need a little while to flush all the crap out of its system and begin reaping the benefits of good eating. With that said though, don’t make this too painful for you, or you will hate it and quit early. Allow yourself to cheat once every other day when you are getting started. Third, create a food diary. This will help you stay on track. Another big one is get rid of all the crap in your pantry if you can. This includes but is not limited to: corn, pasta, rice, bread , flower and beans.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Excellent advice! Don't think of this as a diet, its a lifestyle! Once you learn to eat more fat and protein and lots of healthy veggies you will never feel like you are depriving yourself of anything.

I have to be honest, if you are not willing to cook the majority of your meals yourself you are probably not going to do well with this. I cook 95% of my meals and it allows me to choose exactly what I put into my body. I also allow some cheat days but as I have found out during these months I have a decent amount of Gluten intolerance so cheat days with a bowl of pasta aren't so fun. Most of the time I cheat with a big frozen custard or some cake batter sit down and watch some TV.

I think the single greatest thing I've learned and do with this lifestyle is Intermittent Fasting. I fast every day and its probably the reason for much of my success. Go to this site and drink in everything he says about fasting. It will blow your mind

I've been on it over a year now. I lost 50 lbs in about 5 months. I stayed on the diet because I like it, and have been able to maintain my weight even adding back in some of my favorite things like beer. If I start to slip and gain too much, I just fast (IF) for a day or two, and get back to where I want to be.

This has been the easiest way to control my weight of my life.

So were ancient hominids into fad diets too? I did not know..... :lol:

I'm on my own version of the paleo diet. I eat just like ancient hominids did. When I'm hungry, I eat. When I'm not, I don't. Otherwise I don't worry about it, and focus on doing fun stuff instead.

Nice edit ::):

I'm sure most ancient hominids walked around eating whole grains and low fat, made sure they drank 8 glasses of water and ate 6 small meals a throughout the day to keep their metabolism going...
