Strange smell when choked

Recommended Posts

I've owned 5-6 bikes over the years and can't remember smelling this smell when I first start the bike with the choke all the way out. The bike has about 4k on it and all I use is 91 octane Chevron gas. I pull the choke out hit the button and it starts right up giving it no gas, even after sitting a couple weeks. Everything is good but the exhaust smells very lean to me, I know anything with a carb when choked runs rich. Like I said it starts right up after a minute or so I push in the choke and i'm off. Anybody have a reason for this?

how can the exhaust smell lean ??

Opposite Rich :busted: There is a smell when an engine running lean but this smells more like some sort of chemical also. I'm thinking maybe it's the Tehcron in Chevrons gas. It's strange and only when it's choked, I use Chevrons premium in my Muscle car also but that runs very rich when cold (no smell) no chemical smell that is.

Ethanol blended fuels will change the smell. Could that be it?

No Ethanol in Chevrons gas. Or does it?
