heat range

i have a stock 1995 dr 250s that is used strictly offroad and only mod. besides gearing is i pulled the snorkel out of airbox.my buddy said i should go one heat range hotter on the spark plug.is this a good idea? i just checked plug and looked good, a little tan looking. and would i get more power?i have always stayed with what came on the bikes from factory.why would you change heat range anyway? thanks

For some reason everyone wants to use a hotter plug, thinking it will produce hotter spark. That simply isn't true. There's no reason for change if there's not a problem. Sometimes if you have detonation problems, you need a cooler plug, but the necessity of a hotter plug is very rare, seeing as the factory usually uses medium to hot plugs anyway,
