xl250r vs xr250r cylinder

Recommended Posts

So got a 87 xl250r. got a 88 xr250r cylinder. Notice the bore is 75 vs 73mm. can you just bore the later XR cylinder to work with the earlier XL250R? reason asking is the threads pulled out of the cylinder on mine and cannot get a new set to work with the cylinder. Thus it is junk at this point.

Thanks

I believe the 87 XL used the same cylinder as the 84-85 XR.

As far a a stripped thread Helicoil is an easy and relatively cheap fix and has saved a lot of aluminum parts.

this head is beyond just a helicoil. Tried one, pulled it out also.

again just trying to see if I can bore this cylinder make it work. The head and base gaskets are the same, and height is the same. casting is the same mark on both cylinders. So beyond the bore, I dont see why it wouldnt work. Steel bore so simple.

I will answer my own question.

yes you can use the later 86-91 xr250 cylinders on the XL250Rs once you bore them to the correct size.
