adjusting 05 CRF450R valves, locked tite!

Recommended Posts

well my CRF has had a valve rattle/top end noice for quite some time. This fall the bike just stopped running one day, it litterly would fire wonce and then die. After check the valves i find that both exhuasts are loose.

1 intake valve is in spec, the left intake valve is nearly locked tite! the spec is .006mm i couldnt even fit a .004 or .002 feeler gauge in there at all! Anybody ever run into not being able to get a feeler gauge between the cam lobe?

It happens all the time on the intake side. The intake lash goes to zero when the intake valve has the coating worn off and it begins to recede into the head.

Hate to say it, but the bike needs a valve job. You can re-shim the intake and ride it, but its only going to last probably another 12-15 running hours before it needs shimmed again, then you'll probably only get about 8 hours out of it and its toast. No more room to shim, new valves and cut the seats to clean them up and you're back in business.
