2000 DRZ 400E Carburetor help, please...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to help out a friend who rides a 2000 DRZ 400E. He feels like his bike bogs slightly when opening the throttle quickly. He's looking for more of a quick surge than a bog. I've read about the O-ring mod, but is that only for the newer MX carbs or would that be appropriate for the carb he has? I haven't seen the bike yet so I can't confirm which carb is installed, but it's supposed to be bone stock. What carb mods would be appropriate? Thanks for your help. - Paul

Hey Paul..An E has a slant body fcr...Jetting should be close to this..the Eddie mod should fix the bogging..

with snorkel removed at near sea level..

160 main jet

200 main air jet

100 pilot air jet

EMN needle clip 3 or stock DXP needle clip 5

45 pilot jet

2.25 turns fuel screw

Remove the coast enrichener.http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=726110&highlight=coast+enrichener+removal

Do the Eddie Mod..http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=890079&highlight=eddie+mod

To make easier pilot circuit tuning I recommend get a R&D Flex Jet remote fuel screw...You will need to slightly enlarge the fuel screw orifice on the bowl.,(with a drill) to install the Flex Jet.http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=294&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thumpertalk.com%2Fforum%2Fshowthread.php%3Fp%3D10626773%23post10626773&v=1&libid=1314872488816&out=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.thumpertalk.com%2Fcatalogs%2FParts_Unlimited_Offroad_2009%2Fdefault.asp%3Fp%3D817&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thumpertalk.com%2Fforum%2Fforumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D25&title=DRZ400e%20Jetting%20-%20ThumperTalk&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.thumpertalk.com%2Fcatalogs...ault.asp%3Fp%3D817&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13148725794081

Thanks very much. That's fantastic! We mostly ride at about 3000 to 6000 elevation. Do you recommend a JD kit or are they unnecessary for this bike? Thanks

You don't need a Jet kit..The needle is the key part of the kit for the fcr..

If you mostly ride at that altitude you could go DXP ,clip 4 or EMP needle, clip 3/ and a 155 main jet..

When you remove CE with that jetting suggestion are you tying the CE ports together or capping them off?

connect the 2 nipples on the carb together with a left over piece of hose..

So, I want to be clear on this. When removing the CE, if I'm not changing the jetting then am I supposed to connect the two ports on the carb to each other with hose or am I capping the individual ports? Thanks-Paul
