Troubleshooting carb '00 CR125

Recommended Posts

Here's the problems:

Can't idle at all.

Very hard to kick start when cold.

Impossible to kick start when hot.

Carb almost always leaking gas out of overflow.

Here's what I've observed:

Has been sitting for months disassembled.

I just put a new piston/top end kit in.

Once it gets running it goes just fine (except for idleing).

Always starts when push starting/popping into gear down a hill.

Low compression when kicking (as compared to other bikes. seems fine when riding)

Just cleaned the carb.

The service manual is not intuitive on what the adjustment screws actually adjust.

My friend says that it feels like it's running rich. I'm not experienced enough to tell. I think it might be a side effect of the new piston but again I really don't know. Any help troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Is ur piston facing the right way? I know it sounds stupid, it has happened. And it would surely cauSe the sym. You are describing. Goodluck!

Yes, I made sure when I put it in to face the arrow towards the front.

I cleaned the carb again and messed with the float. I'm not entirely sure what the right way to adjust it is so I just bent a little tab on it to force it lower.

That solved the overflow issue but now it won't start at all, even if pulled.

I'll replace the spark plug tomorrow to be thorough but it seemed fine.

On a somewhat-side-note, what is the correct way to adjust the float level?
