76 TT500 transmission rebuild

Recommended Posts

G'day,

Is there a secret to get the main drive shaft & transmission to mesh with the shift cam and selector forks?? I can get them all together but I cannot get the shift cam to do its job properly...that is to shift cleanly. The Yamaha manual describes the rebuild simply as " insert main shaft, insert transmission, insert shift cam and forks and make sure all spins and shifts neatly", easy peasy.

My first attempt I thought it was piss easy. Followed the manual verbatim, screwed the crankcases together and voila. But I was dreamin. To adjust the gear shaft the manual explains to place in second gear (***) and adjust the bolt so the 2 marks line up. Marks line up but gear shifting is obsolete.

If someone could fill me in on what I'm doing wrong and would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Peter
