CR85 carb drain

Recommended Posts

I recently took possession of an '03 CR85 RB. Am wanting to drain the carb float bowl. Looking through the service manual, as well as various threads on this forum, I see reference to a drain screw on '04 and newer models.

My carb has a 17mm bolt on the bottom of the float bowl, as well as a hose running from the bottom of the float bowl. If I open this bolt, will it drain thru the hose, or will it spill from around the bolt opening?

Thanks in advance!

When you loosen the 17mm bolt, the fuel will drain out from the bolt. The hose that comes from the bottom of the carb is there to automatically drain fuel from the bowl if the fuel level gets too high. The hose is connected to a metal tube that points up the in the float bowl and is open on the end, so if/when the gas reaches the opening, it drains out.

Ahhh....good to know.

They don't give us an abundance of room to put a catch can underneath the bolt, do they!?
