kdx220 tear down

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Im a long time lurker and I finally joined.

Im tearing my 1997 kdx 220 down to rebuild and have hit two walls :busted::banghead:

I need to buy a flywheel puller and I need to know what size.

Secondly on the crank I need to know the thread direction and the best way to hold the gear on the crank to break the nut loose.

Thanks alot.

A catalog like Dennis kirk or Rocky MTN ATV should tell you what puller you will need.

Should be a right hand thread on the nut.

There is a source for manuals on the kdxrider.net forum. Order online and print it out.

27mm x 1.0mm, left handed threads

Be sure to grease the threads and the end of the crankshaft. If it is threaded on the end, put a socket head bolt in the end and let it turn on that and not the end of the crankshaft. (greased)

I have used a penny between the gears during breaking the nut loose, before I bought a gear holder.
