Best year for kx250

What is the best year for the kx250's?

05-07 IMO and a lot of others. They rip!

Any year that runs, shifts, and is ridable.

The newest is usually the answer and stands true here as well.

I agree 100%!!!

I just bought a 2001 and love it! So far it is probably the best bike I have ridden. I cannot really speak for other years, I'm sure the newer ones are nice to, but I love my 01. I would go for whatever you can find the best deal on that is the cleanest with the lowest hours. That's what I did, found mine with less that 50 original hours. It was well worth the 3 month wait.

Does your '01 seem to have a taller than normal first gear?

An '01 for sale here (negotiable $1400), but I would be using it for a woods bike, and some of the past threads I seen on them mentioned a very tall first gear on the '99-01 models. Not a good thing when the climbs get rough and ugly.

OLHILLBILLY the 01 does have a high first gear but it is fine if you change to a 94-98 1'st gear. My 01 is one fine woods bike http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1005296&highlight= and abit about the 94-98 1'st gear change http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=582009&highlight= and then where I'm at now with the trans http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1002545&highlight=

These make GREAT trail bikes and I love mine.

Yea it does have a taller first gear, but like no1clyde said, you can change it out which I've heard is pretty simple. But as far as a trail bike, I did a lot of research on that because that is primarily what mine is for and they seem to make great trail bikes. People recommend a lightened flywheel, which I have not done yet. I rode mine last weekend on some trails I made in the back of my property and it does great.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the $$ figures on the first gear change. Will probably have to buy the parts new, as the chances of finding the gearset on Ebay in good shape are probably slim to none.

I haven't even looked at the bike in person yet, so I may go check it out tomorrow if the place is open.

Thanks again.. Tom
