450x vs KLX450

Recommended Posts

I rode my buds KLX 450 over the weekend.

Paul (A/S Racing) did all the work on it-motor, suspension.

That thing was absolutely awesome.

Felt much better than my X in a small tight, small whoop section in Ocotillo. (and I thought mine was good).

It felt very tight, ate everything up and in 5 minutes I felt I could run circles around my X.

The front end was the best I have ever felt.

Maybe because I have always liked Kawi's for their tighter handling (my old 650 turned great and the forks were very good also). The X is probably better high speeds but I could not believe how well it handled.

I told him to call me it he ever sells it.

Anyone else have this experience?

The KLX fork is better, the KLX frame is newer and holds a front wheel line better than any CRF. I have a CRF450X and a KX450. The KX fork is WAAAAAY better than the X fork, even after Paul's careful massage job. Although.......he is re-doing my X suspension right now (service, stiffer springs, another re-valve with the 'new' midvalve stack) so we'll see....

I couldn't remember if you had a KX or a WR.

I hear the new KX is incredible.

With my buds bike it would be holeshot and start picking guys off from the first waves.

I could rocket on that thing.

Give us a report on the new front.

I never touched mine because it was so much better than stock.

Time to get the screwdriver out next time out and try to improve.

I have a WR450 too. It's currently going through a major suspension test. Proaction 3-way valving front and rear. Soooo much better than stock, yet still soooo far away from the KYB's on the KX. I even have a set of 2007 YZ450 forks that I will try on the WR (after more springing and valving of course), if I cannot get the old open-bath KYB's from the WR to measure up. I still have not even tried to re-shim the mid valve, so that is next.

It's the only year......

I think I'd have a hard time buying a bike that was in production 1 year

I am not a big fan of the KLX. I have ridden a well prepped one and it felt twitchy and small.

I'm 6'4" and like a 650R, and have setup 450x's to be more like a 650R.

I also would be skeptical of the KLX's ability to power big lights.

I agree with the 450X/650R setups.

My bud is 6'2 220 and sold his X for the KLX.

I came from owning KDX220/KLX650 to my current bikes X/XR.

I do like the Kawadog handling in hi-dez tighter dez riding/racing.

Baja- Honda hands down.

(I hate riding at night)
