franken bike

Recommended Posts

ok i have this small little yamaha enduro bike {100cc} 2st 1980 model that iv had.its a really fast bike but doesnt have the streanth.when i climbe a tall dirt road hill it has to bee on 2 gear forcing it self or 3 gear without any force.

so now i want to modify it to give it a yz85 style.

i want to put,

yz 85 plastics,tank,fat pipe,forks,rims,fatbar,seat.

a little bit bigger rear sprocket so it will have more streanth.

and put a 125 piston and carb on it.

the piston it has looks like a yamaha yt125 piston but a weey bit smaller.

and the carb looks like a yamaha dt125/175

i also want to put a monoshock on it since it uses dual shocks

and unbreakable leavers.

not sure what else i could do to it,maybe you guys can suggest somthing to me.

I think you should just sell it and get a bike that better fits your needs.

I agree. OP, You're getting into alot of work and $$$ talking all those mods. It would be one thing to restore that bike... it's another thing to try and completely modify it. You're time any money would be better spent on fixing up the bike you want. Unless you have a Yamaha junk yard nearby.

I've done a few "frankenbike" like things and can tell you that whatever your final estimate of time/money is to build it, double that number then add more time to work the bugs out.

we're gonna need some before/during/after pics please.

ok right now i only have the skeleton and the motor open of the motorcycle.

it used to look alot like this motorcycle:1980 Yamaha DT1 100cc in red but we painted it in blue.

here is a pic of the 1980 Yamaha DT1

You can roll a turd in glitter, but it's still a turd...

sorry..

I like doing crazy things to old bikes too,i'd start with cylinder porting and a pipe. If you can can find a old mx\Lt1 100 expansion chamber pipe.Bassani or something?

Oh yes ,ya might post this in the vintage forum..

Mill the head .060", hog out the reed area and find a larger reed assembly to bolt in. A slightly larger carb, expansion chamber and K&N filter and it'll be a screamer.

It will be cheaper and easier to just buy a YZ85. And some of the items on your "wish list" can't even be done, such as converting a dual-shock chassis to a mono-shock.

first off: im making this bike just for fun and so i have somthing to do

second: im going to cut and weld the chassi so i can adapt any mods nessesary. kinda like making my own model.

does anyone have a piston of the yamaha dt1 100 2st so i can compare my piston with?

the model #s on my piston is:

inside: 55801

inside opposite of the 55801: 10 with an upside down t over it.

top: opposite of the arrow is the # 50

what i'd sugguest if you're going that route then is find a yz85 chasis and hack it to be a dt100...

just one problem.....i cant buy a yz chassis here and if they do have it they will sell it at the price of a new motorcycle. that's why i didnt include the yz85 chassis in the description of mods, and its to big to bring in a luggage bag and to import it will be a hassle to get it out of the customs.
