Changes to DR650

Recommended Posts

Have there been any mechanical changes to the DR650 since 2000? There is a 2000 for sale in my area for a good price. Does the 2000 model have the extra hole in the bottom of the shock to lower the bike?

Thanks

The 96er has two mounting positions for the lower shock end, the 2011 has them and everything between as well. Suzuki replaced the paper base-gasket with a steel one from 2003 on. Apart from that only changes in colour of seat, tank and plastics.

What?????! Suzuki made some massive changes to the DR650 other than the ones you've mentioned... like the crazy headlight cowling change in 2002 or how about the radical change from an amber turn signal panel indicator lens to a green one? Don't lead riders astray!

http://drriders.com/ love the forum. Thanks for putting it out there. I shouldn't have sold my 2007 DR650, but I wanted to try the DRZ400. Now I want another DR650. I love the DRZ400 though.

The engine-grenade-issue was caused by Suzuki from swapping from a rubber-dampened starter gear to a fixed gear end of 97. It was changed back in 99 after vin # X2100561. So all bikes 96-97 and after that number in 99 since are grenade-proof - thanks for reminding.

I have both + a 98 DR350se, and I find I'm riding the 650 the most.
