Do I have to remove my air box to change out the jet kit on my bike?
Unfortunately, its just easier to remove the subframe to gain greater access to the carb (stupid frame!) I have an 08 and have change the jetting a million times...its faster and a lot less stress to take the subframe off for changing the pilot and leak jet. You can get to the main without doing all that but its still challenging. I would suggesting get an Motion Pro Keihin Carb Wrench kit (http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/MOTION-PRO-KEIHIN-CARB-WRENCH) Its a time savor. Good luck!
Here's another thread about the same thing. Removing the subframe is not necessary. It's a 5 min job with the right tools:
Now, messing with the needle is whole different story. You pretty much have to take the seat and tank off.
