California Google Earth Placemarks to GPX ughhhh!

Recommended Posts

Hey not even really sure where to post this but I will try here.

Like so many others I have drawn routes/ tracks in Google Earth and added "Placemarks" in that application.

I am trying to get the whole sha-bang on to a Garmin Etrex Vista HCx.

I know I need to convert from a KML or KMZ file to a GPX to use in Base Camp or Map Source.

I can get a truncated route to the GPS and I think it is truncated because it is simply too many points. I can work on this, but the Placemakers which are equivalent to Waypoints do not come over at all.

Anyone out there with a good solution or a converter that handle the routes and place marker conversion to GPX files.

Not sure if this will work for you...but check out GPS Babel. I exclusively use tracks, not routes...but it seems to work for me. I draw routes in Google Earth, use GPS Babel to convert them to gpx format and import them to Roadtrip (I'm a MAC user) then clean them up if I need and send the track to my GPS.

Thanks for the gpsbabble suggestion

This does not bring the waypoints unless you bring them in individually.

However, like everybody says, babble can bring in the path or tracks.

Gpsbable also can limit the points of the track so you can visualize the tracks in the Harmon vista etc.
