600 head to a 650

Recommended Posts

I have an 86' xr600 and I am wanting to know if I can put the head from it on a 94' xr650l. The 94' dropped a valve seat and nees the entire head re worked. I have an 86" xr600 that need a timing chain. Just trying to figure out how to make one ride out of two motors.

Thanks for any help!

Nope bolt holes are different, you would have to use the jug and piston, checking deck hieghts, there is a chart on here if you search for it.

An 86 XR600 is twin carb,,a 650L is single,,there are no adapters made to sort that problem out..Jug/Head Piston I'll leave for someone else to explain,,Too complex for me at the moment,,deep in a wiring job (again)

The 1986 dual carb head will need to be used in the matching dual carb frame. This project isn't practical; it makes more sense to just redo the650L head, or buy a used replacement.

You could put the '86 head and cylinder and piston on the 650L bottom end, put the whole hybrid engine into the 1986 frame, then swap the 650L suspension and electricals onto the 1986 frame.
