adapting bmx bar/stem to stock fork?

Recommended Posts

I just recently bought a basket case 2003 xr50. I have since got it running (too much fun!)but my 13yo son and i are the only ones who are going to ride it so obviously i need bigger bars. I have seen the $200 bar kits but i want to try to adapt a bmx stem to the stock fork. My question is has anyone ever tried it? I figure i can either cut the steerer tube off a old bmx fork and weld it to the xr fork crown, or drill through the bmx stem and bolt it on to the fork. I weld for a living so im not worried about that aspect just wondering if the offset stem will cause goofy handling, like i suspect it will. Mostly im trying to get big bars on it for cheap since i only have $250 into the whole bike at this point. If you got any suggestions, lets here them!

The bar clamps from an XR/CRF70 are a direct bolt-on to the 50 top triple clamp and any 7/8" handlebars will then fit.

Parts #7 and #8 shown HERE.

Well thats too easy! Thanks alot!
