2006 KLX300R Countershaft Sprocket

Recommended Posts

Does it matter which way the sprocket is facing? Seems to fit and spin freely either way, makes a clicking noise while spinning the chain after reversing it, but I think that might just be from the wear or lack of wear on the opposing side of the teeth?

Also, does anyone have the torque spec for the sprocket nut?

Thanks.

Some sprockets do have a back side... like my YZ250Fs. But if it goes on both ways and spins freely, then you're good to go. I haven't replaced the sprocket on my KLX yet, but on my Suzukis, and Hondas, they go both ways.

It's got a groove on one side, which I would think would be for A. weight reduction, or B. clearance from case. But it doesn't seem to rub anything and the center by the splines is inline with the teeth on both sides and the chain looks centered, just makes a clicking noise with the chain on that it didn't make before.

It's not worn badly enough to replace it, barely noticeable difference on one side of the teeth. Rear sprocket still looks new and chain has only needed adjustment once.
