79 xr250 fit in 85 xr250 frame?

Recommended Posts

Is there a thread or info on the history of the xr/xl250 bikes and motors with the differences / especially the motor / through the years?

I have a chance at an 85 XR250 rolling chassis with the motor out of it.

The owner wrote XR230 - (is there such a thing?) - but the swing arm says '250R Pro-Link'.

Motor was rebuilt and then stuck in 2nd gear after re-assembly. Something I think I can resolve.

Can I put my 79 motor in the 85 chassis?

If so, any differences in the motors between years, and do I use the '85 or the '79 carb?

Thanks for the reply.

Kinda worried about the 'pretty sure' part.

Anyone know for sure if 79 xr250 motor will go in 85 xr250r frame?

not sure you "can use any year motor in any chassis"

rephrase pretty sure you can not "use any year motor in any chassis"

86-95 will pretty much interchange

82? 83?-85 had dual carbs and the shock off center

79 was a twin shocker

carb + boot might/will create more of a problem

than adapting motor mounts
