Head tube bearings

My buddy races pro level areacross and informed me that i should tighten my head tube bearings so that wen my bike is on the stand and i hit the bars lightly it should move some but not all the way to the stop... right now mine moves very freely wen i tap it, it hits the stop. the reason i even asked him was because i was riding some trails this weekend and the bars wanted to rip outta my hand and i have the honda hpsd on and was leaned back and pinning it and still was shaking so... any legitimacy on this way of tightening?

Yup! The bars shouldnt "flop" over from side to side. You should have to give it a little effort. Careful not to tighten too much as it can cause premature wearing.

matter of preference...i like mine pretty loose because when they are on the tight side it makes the bike feel heavy...
