XR100 with XR80 wheels?

Recommended Posts

Buying a 2004 xr100 for my 10 year old boy tomorrow. Did some research and decided to do some xr80 wheels on it; I've located a set locally. I am seeking a photo of a bike with this particular setup. Searched long and hard but can't find one. Help please.

Thanks, KR

Got the bike and cleaned it all up, looks almost new. Can anybody chime in on the wheel swap I spoke of? Experience with, pics, etc.

i know its an easy swap, its commonly done for supermoto. hubs are the same, so you just need the wheels. post in xr/crf forum for better results

Not sure what you are looking for???

Do you want to put xr80 wheels on to shorten the seat height?

Yes, just want it a little shorter to start out with.

85-03 XR80 wheels are a bolt on.

82-84 CR80 wheels are a bolt on (aluminum, lighter 14/17" combo, much better front tire selection).

Watch for brake drum condition when purchasing used. Assume the bearings are toast and include that as a cost.

Thanks for all the info. Now, does a picture exist of said modification? Anybody?

Doubt it, it's not really interesting enough to warrant a picture...

It's just not a cost effective thing to do. You can go out and buy a perfectly good xr80 for $500-600 dollars and not have to deal with all the gearing/chain problems.

Buy a used 80, it doesn't even need to be a clean pretty one. Teach your kids to ride on it and they will be scrambling for the 100 before you know it.

Then just wash the 80 and sell it. Total net outlay $0.00

 THink about it. You want a picture of a xr100 with slightly smaller wheels. It's not like you asked for pictures of xr100's in cr85 chassis.

Looks to me like he is just stating a fact. Obviously, it is a little done conversion, otherwise you would be able to find pics of it having been done.

Did this for my son, wheels bolt right up and slid the fork tubs up as well for another inch. Believe it or not guys it help make a shorter rider feel more confident on the bike, then when he sprouts like a weed, which they usually do ill throw the 100 wheels back on. I got my wheels for $12 from a local steel scrap yard in great shape.

When I'm done with them Ill sell them and be in the black!!

No pictures though and the 100 wheels are on now while I ride it for a few!

Oddly enough a brief google search (xr100 with xr80 wheels) brought this up

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/mcy/2729534057.html

Are you happy now????

I did see that one but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Are you really that wound up about the fact I'm seeking a photo of a mod I'm interested in. What's the big deal? And what's with ... !!! ??? Don't you think one is sufficient.

***UPDATE***

Could this be it?

HAHAHA that's me. The "2" bike has XR70 wheels and the other one has 80 wheels. Unless the hub is black, then it had a CR80 front wheeel (17").
