New Brake Pads and Rotor

Recommended Posts

I just installed new front brake pads and a new rotor on the front of my KX 250. Should I do anything special to break them in? I sprung for a quality (I hope) front rotor, so don't want to screw it up!

I take my bike out and do ten quick hard stops to bed the pads in and deglaze the rotor. Don't do extended stops, you don't want to get the new pads very hot, just wear them in to the contour of the rotor.

^^^ As apart of that, i drag the drag the brake for a short distance to warm it all up then I do a couple 3-4 gear slow downs each one getting progressively more firm. do this until you get bored, or just wanna RIDE!

Thanks Chokey, I did what you said. New brakes are great! I rebuilt the MC, replaced fluid and put on new pads and a galfer wave rotor. I didn't realize how bad mine had gotten until I rode a friends bike a while back. I was even able to pull a few stoppies, I don't think I could have ever done that before!
