99 RM 250...Pinging???

Recommended Posts

I have not owned this bike for very long, But today I noticed a "rattling" sound coming from the engine...Off the pipe, low/mid RPM, under a load, part throttle. It was an especially cold day today for riding here..35 degrees...Otherwise the bike ran very "crisp"...Do you guys use an octane booster on these older 2 strokes? If so, what do you recommend?

Is that the answer? I'm hoping the engine is JUST pinging....It has never done this before, but then again, I went riding today in weather 20 degrees lower than I have ridden the bike in before. The bike does not "rattle" under full throttle...(Main Jet circuit) regardless of RPM...Just a combination of throttle opening/load/RPM....1/4 to 1/2 throttle at low to low/mid RPM under a load......(4th gear roll on from a steady speed).....Can colder weather make a bike ping? Maybe my jetting is right on the "brink" of being too lean? (152 Main, 42 pilot,)...3000 Feet above sea level.

start with the main and only work with the other circuits if necessary.
