How to start a 2006 YZ125 2 stroke

Recommended Posts

I'll be looking at a 2006 2 stroke YZ125 this weekend. The EX will be showing the bike (part of divorce settlement) and I assume she doesn't know anything.

Are there any special starting procedures for this bike?

Gas on, choke on, slowly cycle the kickstarter from TDC (top dead center) all the way though the bottom. I do it about 5 times.

My 06 starts first kick year round.

Give yours a nice full kick. Warm up. Choke off. Ride easy a bit to clean it out.

Hammer it.

And don't post it on social networking sights would the ex have an evil streak!

There are special things you need to do to start a 125. Unfortunately they're smaller than their 250cc friends, and while everyone trys to reassure the 125s that "its not the size that counts but how you use it", they're still insecure about their size.

As such you need to do a few special things to start a 125. Make sure you reassure it that the previous owner isn't leaving it for a better hung 250cc. Tell it that it will do just fine being only a 125cc and shouldnt be so worried. Then flirt a bit - you can tell the 125 is ready to go when the choke comes up.

If the above doesnt work, then just make sure it has gas in the tank, the fuel is turned on, the choke is on, then after a few kicks it should fire right up.

LOL, I guess I didn't need to mention I'm buying a bike from some divorce settlement.

Sounds like it should start fairly easily if everythings in order.

I heard you can use your hand to start them lol. And assuming she doesn't know anything, she probably doesn't know the value either........Get it cheap man. Also since she's single see if she'll "show you the house":lol:

Really guys, you aren't "helping" him!

Show up wearing a Fox shirt. You will look like you know how to ride then.

Turn on gas and choke.

Cycle the kick starter through a couple times.

Place left thumb on kill switch.

Kick like hell until you are sweating.

Tell her it won't start, offer her $500 less.

Load it up, go home, and then start it.

It is a tremendously easy bike to start, ride and repair. There shouldn't be any issues that a little coin can't fix. Use the savings from the procedure above and you will have a sweet little ride when all is said and done.
