1992 XR250L Piston ID

Recommended Posts

I need new rings for my 1992 Honda XR250L. The bore size is 77mm. The piston looks good but has no markings on it that I can see. I would rather not buy a new piston but will if that is recommended. Can anyone ID the piston in the following pictures? I live in Tanzania (Africa), a two day plane ride from the nearest cycle parts store. A friend can bring the parts out or I can have them shipped but that is expensive the the lighter and less bulky, the better. Thanks.

Do you think the newer Wisco rings will fit it? Also, what replacment ring style (XG, XH, XC or XA) would you advise?

Can't answer that but if you can measure the thickess of the rings I could measure the ones for a late Wiseco 77mm I have in the box here.

Meatloaf , I just bought a 300 dollar 91 xr250L , guy said it was burning a lot oil and needed new rings. Piston / rings were fine but the head gasket had failed so she was sucking lots of oil past it and otherwise it was just poorly maintained. I'm saving another XR !

You never said why you think it needs new rings or what it was running like ?

Do all your piston / cylinder / ring measurements check out ?

Sometimes its a simple fix. :bonk:

Thanks for the input. Ended up buying new sleeve and piston (standard size). Gasket was fine, and the reason I did the top end job was because it was burning alot of white smoke all the time and there was a lot of play between piston and cylinder wall. Ran great besides that.
