Read the FAQ's. There is so much to answer you with it seems daunting giving you a good answer to your question. There is a LOT to do to improve your bike and it's not just go faster mods. Seriously, you have a new bike and there is a ton to learn here if you're interested. Good luck with your bike, you picked a good one.

full is best. Slip on only adds noise, no power. Mrd/ssw is best pipe around for your buck.

+1 ssw/mrd

Most accessory pipes are better than stock ,some better than others...

For off road and if you not interested in lots of top end power most pipes are suitable..Standard MRD, FMF pc4, Akropovic etc

The ssw/mrd is a pipe specifically designed for highly modified DRZ's and produces the best peak HP figures...as with the Yosh ti..

The SSW/MRD keeps producing power to around 9,000rpm, whereby most the other "off the shelf pipes" start to drop power in the mid 7K rpm range..

Below is a comparison between a Full Akropovic and Yosh ti( the yosh and the SSW/MRD have similar charts)

Mods are 94mm big bore,hotcams,fcr-mx...AS PER EDDIE'S SSW 50hp Package..

And here is a chart between stock and full Akropovic ..

What is the performance difference in a standard vs. a MRD/SSW pipe? What will it do if you run a MRD/SSW without a Big Bore?

This graph will give you an idea.....I haven't seen a comparison between the Std Mrd and SSW/MRD...

I am thinking the std MRD would be similar to a Yosh stainless or Muzzy...

The YoshTi.(ssw/mrd) makes 8 more hp at 9k rpm than the stocker..

Just keep in mind the more detuned the bike is the less the SSW/MRD pipe will gain..

Cams, Carb and Compression play a big part in how a pipe works.

Bike is stock SM..

dark blue = stock pipe

green = brand new out of the box yosh ti (SSW/WRD)

red = yosh stainless

light blue = muzzy

Wow those pipes seem to run pretty close to the SSW pipe. Do you know if this graph was from a tuned or stock engine?

thank you all.

finally I decided to purchase the ""Leo Vince" pipe - full system.

But I see that it fits only until model 2008.

Do's it fit the 2009 model too ?(DR-Z 400 S)
