Power Valve Problems?

Recommended Posts

I bought a used 2006 YZ250 from a guy and it turns out that he put a big bore sleeve in it. So I got a new stock cylinder and slapped a stock size piston in it and it runs great now. My only concern is when a buddy asked me if I replaced the power valve that was in there because it was likely cut back for clearance of the big bore piston...hmmmmm? What, if anything might happen if I keep running my bike with a shaved/trimmed power valve in it??? Do you think it is loosing low end power or will it effect the port timing?

I have the same problem. I just asked the same question about a 2005 kx 125 that I just bought for my son. My mechanic said it has to be replaced. He has been in this business for 30 plus years, so I have to take him at his word.

I'd leave it as is. It's not going to hurt any thing other than your power band may start slightly higher. If you feel you're loosing a lot of bottom end then get a new one $$$
