Cam Chain and Valve check

Recommended Posts

I do not have the confidence to check my valve clearance so I am bringing it to a mechanic, @ the same time I figure I will have him put in a cam chain as well. The question is if he is putting in the cam chain should I go ahead and have him do piston rings @ the same time? Meaning would he have to remove cylinder to do cam chain? Also does the "powernow" add-on work or should I forgo it, 2004 YZ 250f. thx.

You don't have to pull the cylinder to replace the cam chain. Powernow is a waste of money if the bike is jetted correctly. It's made to fix the symptom of a problem instead of fixing the actual problem.

My suggestion is check the valve clerance yourself first at that point if they are OK and you still do not fee confident in your readings then take it to a mechanic. You can not hurt anything by checking them, just watch the hot start cable when you remove the valve cover.
