Mini friendly National Style MX tracks

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of taking my mini rider down to So Cal for a bit of riding the week after Christmas. We would like to hit up a few tracks while staying at a hotel that is centrally located.

What are the good National style tracks? Not sure if we should stay in Riverside, Temecula, or somewhere there abouts. Any suggestions would be appreciated :bonk:

There's no better national style track in Southern California, specifically Temecula, than Cahuilla Creek MX. Their main track is a bit much for a mini, but their vet track is very mini friendly and some of the best soil you'll find in So Cal. Lots of big, sweeping loamy berms and natural elevation changes. It's a fantastic track.

Pala Raceway is also a great track. They have a main track, vet track and mini track. You'd have a lot of fun there as well. Lake Elsinore just opened a new facility and it is apparently great, but I have years of mental scars from that place, so I'm torn about going there.

Cahuilla MX and Pala are your best bets. Both are great tracks. You and the 'lil guy will have a lot of fun. They are about 30 minutes from each other. Pala is on an indian reservation and there's a huge casino where you can stay. There are plenty of hotels in the Temecula area off the 79 where you can stay for Cahuilla Creek.

There's also Barona Oaks (which is a historically famous track for the mini MX series. Farther South from Temecula area.)

and Perris Raceway (which is up closer to Riverside)

There are a couple questions to ask yourself first. Is your mini rider capable of some bigger things, or is he looking to kind of tool around and pound some fun laps. My kid is on a 65, decent rider but no head turner with his talent, and has tried a bunch of tracks with me.

Justin hit up some of the more southern tracks. Never been to Pala, but I will vouch for Cahuilla Creek being a great time. My kid struggled a little on a race on the main track there, but the Vet was fun for him. Elsinore just opened and looks really good from all the videos. Also look at The Ranch, about 5 miles past Cahuilla.

Glen Helen is up a few miles from them. The National track is huge, my kid won't go near it with the big hills. Some kids on 85s tear it up though. Your call. Comp Edge is just up the hill and they have a National track as well, again, some kids tear it up, but it is fast and rutted and more suited to the aggressive style rider. Their Vet/Hillside track is great. We were just out there this weekend and both my kid and I spent hours on it. A few miles up from there is Racetown 395 which we both really like. Also right in Riverside is Milestone MX, where they have a good variety of tracks.

If you pick a hotel in a central location (Elsinore to Ontario) on the 15 freeway, you are within an hour drive of all the listed tracks, both what Justin said and what I listed.

Thanks for the suggestions guys keep em coming.

My rider is a 13 y/o novice 85 rider. She does quite well on tracks up here in Ncal. She raced the Dodge National at the Prairie City track (also know as Hangtown)

I forgot to mention we will most likely need to stay at a Day's Inn or one of their other hotels as we will have dogs with us.

Cahuilla. its a must do if you have never been.

make a weekend of it and try The Ranch (its 5 min away) and their soil is great and tracks are on par with most other so cal tracks)

as far as national style tracks.. Glen helen and maybe comp edge would be other viable options.

I wouldn't waste your time with pala unless your 85 rider is intermediate or expert level. (I race Int/exp level and Im not comfortable on the main track at pala).

ELsinore and Pala can be dangerous when crowded and the vet tracks are often crowded. THe Dirt at elsinore Is the WORST dirt I have ever ridden on.
